Q You are serving on a hiring committee of five people. Additionally, you are one of two women on the hiring committee. You are both immigrants, you are from South America and she is from France. The other members of the committee have viewed only white males positively and ranked them higher than other equally qualified candidate, who happen to be women of color. Explain how you would address the issue of fairness and ethics to the male members of the hiring committee, including how this may help them to see the value of diversity for the organization.

I would address the issue by making the male members realize that women of color are also equally deserving like white males. Therefore, the eligibility criteria should not be adjusted to suit the white males to be preferred over women of color just on the basis of color. I would refer to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to make the white male members understand the importance of being fair towards every eligible candidate by not showing bias towards any race of candidates. I would explain to the male members about the ways in which discrimination can lead to the development of a negative image of the organization.
